Origins

In 1145 CE the Samguk Sagi or "History of the Three Kingdoms" was recorded for the first time.

Evolution in Korea

The Unified Silla kingdom then emerged and the three kingdoms began to collaborate in order to expand their territory. Silla with the aid of the Chinese eventually conquered and unified the peninsula in 935.

As Korea enters the post-crisis era its development model appears to be in flux. The people who are awed by the huge cost of the old system support a comprehensive program of liberalization of labor, capital and product markets. On the other hand the people who support the old system attempt to protect it by promoting nationalist sentiments and by exaggerating fears about possible job loss.

Academics and analysts are divided on the extent to which Korea's growth is influenced by these two trends. This article assesses developments to date by analyzing five phases of Korea's political evolution including democratic illiberalism (1945-60), democratic authoritarianism (1961-72), authoritarian exceptionalism (1972-87), democratic paternalism (1987-2001), and democratic participation (2002 to present). This article also identifies key factors that are driving these developments.

Creationism in Korea

In South Korea, 26% of the population is Christian. Creationists have made significant progress in promoting their views to this segment. A survey conducted in 2009 found that nearly one third of respondents do not believe in evolution. Of the respondents, 41% believed that there was insufficient scientific evidence to support the theory 39% of respondents claimed that it did not align with their religious beliefs; and 17 percent said they didn't comprehend it. This level of doubt is similar to that of the United States, where a similar percentage of people do not believe that humans evolved from less advanced species of life.

In the past, the majority of the anti-evolution movements in Korea was focused on educating college students and leading them to Christ. A significant increase in the interest in creation science occurred in the year 1980, following an all-day seminar that was held during the World Evangelization Crusade in Seoul which featured Drs.  에볼루션게이밍  and Duane Gish of ICR as the keynote speakers. KACR began publishing a monthly newsletter called CREATION, in which it reported on its activities and also published articles on scientific evidence for creationism. It also translated a number of films and slides from ICR and also a few books on creationism that were published outside of Korea. A KACR success was seen at KAIST University in Seoul. There, enough students were interested in creationism that they raised the funds and support to put up a small museum on campus with creationist fossil models and other exhibits.

In addition to its public activities, KACR publishes a bimonthly news magazine called CREATION which covers topics in creation science, and it has hosted a series of lectures by ICR staff. It has also established branches in local offices that give seminars and talks to schoolchildren and community groups.

The evolution of South Korea

In the latter half of the nineteenth century and the early 20th century, Korea began to adopt an increasingly Westernized lifestyle. The traditional Korean dress, the hanbok was replaced by miniskirts, as well as other foreign fashion elements. Wang Geon also introduced fundamental reforms and strengthened the centrally-run system. This marked the end of the Three Kingdoms Period. The Korean peninsula was then under the control of the Goryeo Dynasty. During the Three Kingdoms period, Goguryeo, Baekje and Silla gradually became powerful states in Manchuria and on the peninsula.
